REGISTERING YOUR GIRL

Girls on the Run of Southcentral AK uses a lottery registration system. This is the fairest way to conduct registration and alleviates the stress related to signing up at a specific time. There is no longer a need to dash to your computers all at once!

Lottery period: Registration for the lottery will open on Tuesday, August 1st at 8:00am and close Thursday, August 31st at 8:00pm.

To sign up for the lottery online, please have the following information available:

  • Parent/Guardian Contact Information
  • Emergency Contact Information
  • Health Information (Allergies, medications, etc.)
  • Insurance Information (Have insurance card available)
  • Credit/Debit Card (echeck option also available)

When you register your girl, you will be asked to submit a form of payment. You will only be charged for the registration if and when your girl is placed on a team. If there are more spaces available on the team than girls registered, everyone will be placed on the team and the remaining spaces will be open for first come, first serve registration.

The computer-generated lottery will be run on Thursday, August 31st at 8:00pm, for all sites. Registration will be closed this day.

If you are selected in the lottery: You will receive an email that you have been selected, and your credit card will be charged.

If you are NOT selected in the lottery: You will receive an email that you have been placed on the waiting list, and your credit card will NOT be charged at this time.

Emails will be sent the evening of Wednesday, February 15th.

Registration will reopen on at 9:00 am on Friday, September 1st, on a first-come, first-served basis for sites with spots still available and for the waiting list at sites that have filled.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does registration work?

We use a lottery system for the registration process. If more girls are registered than the number of available spots on a team, the registration system will randomly select girls for that team. All additional girls will remain in “lottery status” and be placed on the waiting list. Teams that are not at capacity will include all girls registered at that time. Registration will then re-open and additional girls will be added on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached for each team or until the 3rd practice, whichever comes first. We can only add wait-listed girls up until the 3rd practice due to the nature of the curriculum.

Why do you use a lottery system?

The lottery system provides every family an equal opportunity to register and equal access to participate in the program. This policy is based on feedback from families who shared that the first-come, first-served system is problematic due to many issues including work conflicts, limited computer access and computer glitches. Lottery registration is already used by the majority of GOTR councils nationwide and is recommended by Girls on the Run International.

Is the lottery for everyone or only when a team is full?

Everyone who registers during open registration will receive notification that they are in “lottery status”. At that time, if more girls are registered than the number of available spots on a team, the lottery will occur to randomly select girls for that team. All additional girls will remain in “lottery status” and be placed on the wait list for full teams. If a spot becomes available, a girl will be randomly selected from the wait list. Teams that are not at capacity after the first week of registration will include all girls registered at that time. Registration will then re-open and additional girls will be added on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached for each team.

When will we know if our girl gets a spot on the team?

At the end of each lottery period registration will close and the lottery will run (specific dates are listed above).  You will receive confirmation of your “registered” status by email on that date. This is also the day your credit card will be charged. Girls on the wait list will remain in “lottery status”. If a spot becomes available, a girl will be randomly selected from the wait list. Credit cards are NOT charged until a girl is formally added to a team. Families will then receive a confirmation email indicating “registered”.

What if we need a scholarship?

Our program fee is $150 per girl.  We also have scholarships available for elegible girls.  Scholarships are based off the Anchorage School Distric's free/reduced lunch guidelines.

If a family qualifies for reduced lunch, our program fee is: $25

If a family qualifies for free lunch, our program fee is: $10

If you are not sure of your famliy's qualification please refer to the income chart located on the Anchorage School District website.

What does my registration cover?

We are often asked what the program fee covers. Many of our costs are fairly straight forward as they are visible signs seen at every session a girl attends. These direct program costs include items given to every girl and every team:

 • A Girls on the Run program t-shirt

• A Girls on the Run water bottle

• Twenty 90-minute GOTR sessions delivered by trained and caring coaches using a research-based curriculum

• The “Grown-Up Guide to Girls on the Run” to share with families

• A curriculum and a box of supplies (things like stickers, lap counters, markers, paper, etc.) for every team

• Printed handouts and game pieces for each girl on every team

• A healthy snack at each practice

• Entry into our end-of-season, celebratory 5K

• A 5K t-shirt, race bib, and finishers medal

Some of our expenses are not as obvious – these include items like:

 • Background checks for all coaches and volunteers to ensure the safety of all girls

• First Aid/CPR training for coaches who are not certified

• Insurance for each site, all coaches and girls, as well as the 5K venue

• Costs associated with coach training sessions

• Fees paid to GOTR International for use of GOTR curriculum and logo

• Costs to keep our website operating and updated

• All credit card fees associated with online registration for the program and 5K

• Various 5K expenses, including, but not limited to:

• Venue rental fee for 5K event

• Event supplies and medical personnel
